Chemical and Ultrastructural Comparison of Synthetic and Pathologic Membrane System

چکیده
Characteristic membranous bodies have been previously reported in the cytoplasm of the cerebral neurons in Tay-Sachs disease (1) (Fig. 1). Subsequently (2) these lamellated particles were isolated from homogenized autopsy tissue by differential and density gradient centrifugation and subjected to extensive chemical analysis. The membranous cytoplasmic bodies (MCB) were found to consist of about 50 per cent (dry weight) gangliosides and could account for the accumulation of this complex sphingolipid which characterizes this lipid-storage disease. The appearance and composition of the MCB suggested: (1) that they might arise from an alteration of cytoplasmic organelles, or (2) that they were formed spontaneously by interaction of the component lipids in a fashion analogous to myelin figure formation (3). Chemicals approximating the known composition of the MCB were combined in proper proportion in vitro as a test of this latter hypothesis. The resultant aggregates were examined with light and electron microscopy.

P-98: Ultrastructural Study of Basement Membrane of Seminiferous Tubules in Adult Diabetic Rats with Spermatogenic Alterations
Background: The complications of diabetes are the major problems that occur in diabetic patients. It has been reported that, insulin insufficiency and the impairment of regulatory action of this hormone on Leydig and Sertoli cells have an important role in testicular alterations. Testicular disorders and change in normal spermatogenesis is one of the consequences of diabetes. This study was des...
متن کاملPerformance of Membrane Bioreactor in Removal of Heavy Metals from Industrial Wastewater
Membrane technology is one of the few non-pollutant choices when selecting a treatment process. A membrane with suitable pore size can remove almost all pollutants without using any chemicals. In this research, chromium, zinc and lead were removed from synthetic wastewater by a membrane bioreactor. The results showed that by using a membrane bioreactor, the COD removal efficiency was increased ...
متن کاملTechno-economic evaluation of helium recovery from natural gas; A comparison between inorganic and polymeric membrane technology
Natural gas produced at high pressure (50-70 bar) is the only industrial source of helium (He). A membrane separation process may offer a more efficient production system with smaller footprint and lower operational cost than conventional cryogenic system. Inorganic membranes with high mechanical strength are known to exhibit good stability at high pressure. In this work, two inorganic membrane...
متن کاملHistological, ultrastructural and biochemical studies on the kidney of mice treated with Carthamus tinctorius L. extract
Objective: Carthamus tinctorius L.(C. tinctorius) is used as a food additive but also has medicinal applications. The present work was designed to investigate its probable side effects on the histology and function of the kidney in the mice. Materials and Methods: Sixty adult Balb/C mice were randomly distributed into one control and three experimental groups. The control group received only di...
متن کاملHydophilic polypropylene microporous membrane for using in a membrane bioreactor system and optimization of preparation conditions by response surface methodology
In this study, the response surface methodology (RSM) based on the central composite design (CCD) was used to optimize the preparation condition of polypropylene-grafted maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) microporous membrane by thermally-induced phase separation (TIPS) method. A mixture of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and dioctyl phthalate (DOP) was used as diluent. The effect of polymer composition and qu...
